I'd be more suspicious of the security updates to Internet Explorer that Microsoft started rolling out in November than anything else KB for example. Would be easy to test by setting up a computer with an older OS and browser version you know worked with your webplayer game at the time and seeing if you can get it to work.

Then install the latest updates and see if it breaks. If it works and then breaks, well you know it is browser change. If you can't get it to work on a known good browser version then maybe Unity is at fault.
